Praise
God once again for all his wonderful blessings to our Island
as a whole.
Dear
reader, once again I am glad to be able to remind you that I
am still faithful in praying for you the readers of Prophecy
of the Remnant.
God is faithful in all his ways, in the big things, and in
the little things. Amen.
I
was seeking God this very week for what as a lesson he
wished for me to write on; so while I waited for an answer,
I worked on one I do believe God would also have me do; and
today at the end of a Sunday school class one of the teacher
made a statement I figured was sort of irrelevant to the
lesson.
She said, “it is a
controversial issue weather Jesus could have sinned or not;
she told the class to seek to know the
answer and tell her what we learn.”
Of course, when she finished
the previous sentence I
Answered; yes, and went on to make a
point on why I believe that Jesus could have sinned.
The balance
of her speech challenged me urgently to this lesson.
Just as the class separated
for the midday service, I pondered if the teacher knew the
answer
from the Bible standpoint, from her
point of view, or was she too seeking for THE answer.
Having to leave before Midday
service began, I was on my way home when it dawned on me
that that was the subject God wants me to study and write on
for this week.
I’m glad I serve an Almighty
God.
How about you?
Some people say Jesus could
not have sinned, because he was God.
Some say he could have
sinned, because he was born flesh and blood; in other words
he was human.
Really, all that matters
greatly to me is that he; the spotless Lamb of God came and
gave his life so that one like me who was retched, could be
made free from the great grip of sin that held me bound for
a lost eternity.
But there are some who need
to see the answer to this question from God’s word.
I will now share with you in
this lesson what I received from the word on this subject;
you are free to accept or reject.
I pray that
the Holy Spirit will help you to see the truth on this
matter; now let’s study.
COULD JESUS HAVE SINNED?
About seven hundred years before Jesus was
born, the prophet Isaiah foretold his coming.
As a
spiritual ruler who would bring redemption for His people,
Isaiah well knew that Jesus
was, (and is) the son of God; yes, God the son –not
God the father, or God the Holy Ghost.
In Luke 1: 26-38 states the
encounter of the Angel Gabriel; and Mary the mother of Jesus
as he foretold her of the
conception of Jesus; the son of God, of whom God the
father had choose her to be the mother, and that
he Jesus shall be called
the son of the Highest.
Notice in that said V32 of Luke
1: it goes on to say; …and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father
David:
That
and, after
Highest in the second paragraph; it is a conjunction which
makes it clear that there was someone else in higher power
than Jesus; none other but God Almighty the father.
We also see
in Matthew 1: 18-23 the encounter of the Angel as he told
Joseph that Mary had conceived; or that she was going to
have a child (a son)
who was of the
Holy Ghost; (not the Holy Ghost, or God Almighty
the father; and that he Jesus would save his people from
their sins.
As we proceed in this lesson, please keep in
mind the words that are highlighted.
We have no record in the
Bible of Jesus being tempted in his childhood; but if we
look in Matt. 3: we will see it tells there the story of the
baptism of Jesus.
For to the
point reading, look in V13-17; note: in V 13 Jesus went to
John, for him to baptize him.
Why was
Jesus seeking baptism?
Look in V15
and see what Jesus said to John.
I hope you
have read it, now to explain what Jesus was telling John the
Baptist; in Matt. 3: 15 was that the two of them, him and
John; the only two men that was anointed by the Holy Ghost
from their mothers womb; they were to set an example of
righteousness.
To set an
example of righteousness -that is the one reason why
Jesus was baptized; not to show the world that he had died
to sin, like we who repent of our sin have to do; for
Jesus was born free from
sin, and lived free from it.
Let’s move on to Matt. 4: 1-11
and here we will see the first record of the temptation of
Jesus, and how he over came -or was victorious over sin.
Look at V1
for deep consideration, “why would the Spirit (the third
person of the Godhead) take Jesus to the wilderness to
be tempted by the devil, if it was impossible for Jesus to
fail (sin)?”
Praise God he
didn’t fail.
Could he have
failed? (Sinned)
Well, let us
go on a little farther and allow the word to answer this
strong question; but before going on allow me to ask you a
question dear reader.
Do you think
it would be an act of good knowledge or soundness of mind
for me, you, or anyone else to tempt a dead person who can’t
fail, or sin?
Well, I do not know what your
answer is; but for me, if I see anyone trying to tempt a
dead person, I would have to think that they have lost their
mind; and I sure would not try it -for it is impossible to
get any action whatsoever out of a dead body; so to test or
tempt them is a waste of time.
Thank God Jesus was well alive
in his divinity, and in his humanity.
My point,
temptation is only given to one who the tempter wishes to
entice to do wrong; is this not true? If not, what’s the
reason for tempting?
One could now
say, but you just said or confessed that Jesus was divine as
well as human; and to be divine is to be: relating to, or
being God or a god.
Yes, Jesus was divine; but
being born of a woman he was also human, and God Almighty
had already settled and established the plan of human’s
being their own free agents.
Could, or would God now change
that because he had chosen for his son to take on humanity?
Well, if he did it for Jesus it would then have to be
changed for all who came after Jesus, unless God the father
once again changed it back to the original plan.
Dear reader, God is holy
(free from all sin) therefore he would, and will not
ever mingle with such actions, which is: partiality
(favoring one party over the other.) This is one of the
greatest sins Worldwide.
Mark 1: 13
Makes it clear that after Jesus temptation and fasting for
forty days Angels ministered unto him.
This
ministered means to aid.
What kind of
aid?
Preaching
words of comfort to replenish his spiritual strength?
Giving him
food and water to replenish his physical strength?
Does the
Almighty God the Father one who never even sleeps or
slumbers need Angels to minister to him in any way?
He is the
creator of the world, he is Spirit, he never –and will never
know what hunger or thirst is.
Is he not
the self sufficient God?
You can
fill in the answer in the blank lines.
The Angels
ministered to ---------because he needed them, to aid his
flesh as he was ----------; for he took on him the seed of
Abraham; (the flesh) being born from a woman; yet he
was divine, because he was
God Almighty son.
God the son
(the second person in the
Godhead) having God the father divine nature, but
yet through being in the flesh; (human) he had to
acknowledge the free will that is for all humanity.
In Matt. 4:
1, we see that The Spirit
(the third person of the Godhead)
led Jesus into the
wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Verse 2 makes
it clear that after Jesus had fasted
he was hungry this shows
how truly human Jesus was.
God
Almighty cannot be tempted. (As carnal man, for he
has no human offspring he is the divine Spirit; having no
beginning, and no end.)
Looking back
at Matt. 4: 1, why would The Holy Spirit take Jesus away to
be tempted of, or by the devil if it were impossible for
Jesus the man of humanity to fail? (Sin)
Jesus was
tempted in “all points, like as we are”
Let’s look in Heb. 2: 9, But
we see Jesus who was made a
little lower than the angels for the suffering of death,
crowned with glory and
honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death
for every man.
He was made a little lower
than the Angels; as in that
he had a free will to
choose to sin, through the flesh or not, and also that he
could die.
For (1) the Angels cant die
(2) they have no free will.
Heb. 2: 14, shows us proof
that Jesus was human, which are made lower than Angels.
Read: Heb. 2: 14, Forasmuch
then as the children are
partakers of flesh and blood,
he also himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death he might
destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.
Amen.
And Heb. 2: 16, for verily
he took not on him the
nature of Angels;
but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Read from your Bible V17, and
you will see that it was necessary that Jesus came in the
flesh, for if he did not then he would not know what
temptation, pain, and the like was; therefore he would not
be able to affiliate with us, but by he being human and went
through all things he is able to be merciful, and faithful
high priest before God for us.
Verse 18 states that he
suffered temptation.
Look into these scriptures
Matt. 16: 1, 22: 18, and 35.
Yes, Jesus
was, and still is the son of God Almighty; (the second
person in the Godhead) but you see; the devil when ever,
or how ever he tempted Jesus he knew he was not tempting The
God part (The son of Almighty God) God within; no he
was tempting Jesus; the human, for he (the devil)
well knew that the divine nature of Almighty God can’t be
tempted unto to sin.
The Devil was
tempting Jesus humanity; (flesh) because he wanted to
bring him to sin against God, and so to render him for ever
incapable of being a Sacrifice for the sins of others.
Verse 3, of
Matt. 4: he tempts Jesus to
turn stone into bread; and in V5&6 he tempts him
to prove that he could not
die by falling from a tall building, then V8&9 he
tempts him with worldly
possession, and thank God Jesus over came him every
time. Amen.
See, he well
knew that if Jesus did any of these things what would have
been the results:
First,
it would look like questioning the truth of the voice he
heard from heaven, or putting that upon a new trial, which
was already settled.
Secondly,
it would look like distrusting Father’s care of him, or
limiting him to one particular way of providing for him.
Thirdly,
it would look like setting up for himself, and being his
own carver; or, fourthly, looked like gratifying
Satan, by doing a thing at his motion.
Jesus was
directed to combat; he did not willfully thrust himself upon
it, but he was led up of the Spirit to be tempted of the
Devil.
The Spirit
that descended upon him like a dove made him meek, and yet
made him bold.
Yes, Christ
was led to be tempted of the Devil and him only.
Others are
tempted, when they are drawn aside of their own lust and
enticed (James 1: 14); the Devil takes hold of that handle,
and ploughs with that heifer: but
our Lord Jesus had no
corrupt nature, yet he was not void of free will;
therefore he was led securely, without any fear or
trembling, as a champion into the field, to be tempted
purely by the Devil.
Willingly, he
chouse to please God the Father, and also to die for the
sins of the whole world (Psa. 40: 8; Heb 10: 7, 9; John 10:
15, 18,
Dear reader,
after we are saved, baptized, and sanctified we too have had
the corrupt nature removed from us by the Holy Spirit; but
as long as we are alive we still have our free will.
Let’s read
Heb. 4: 15. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be
touched with our feelings of our infirmities;
but was in all points
tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Amen.
Dear
reader, if you have not yet accepted Jesus the son of
Almighty God as your Savior, let me admonish you that time
is slipping away, now more than ever.
Please
remember dear one, we have to be saved FROM sin to be able
to spend eternity in heaven.
Going to
Church, doing good for others, giving tithes and offering,
being baptized, professing Christianity; there is nothing
wrong in any of them, but dear one all that wont make us
ready for heaven; only accepting the shed blood of Christ
Jesus for the remission of our sin, and staying faithful to
him will be our only way into everlasting joy.
If you have
accepted Jesus as your savior I admonish you to stay
faithful, and study the word –by which you shall grow, and
pray, and seek God’s face.
In what ever
of these conditions you are in; I ask you to be faithful in
