Was the Devil
ever in heaven?
INTRODUCTION
We are
studying from the KJV:
God bless
you for choosing to study with us.
Please get your Bible, so that we can study efficiently.
Dear reader let us tell you first of all that we are
faithful in praying for you, our readers.
We are again thankful for another opportunity to be able
to
Do this
small service of writing another lesson from the Bible for
the glory of our Lord: in the effort of spreading the truth
of his word, with the aim of building and glorifying his
kingdom.
We do realize that the
subject of this lesson is a touchy one in many ways; one
that we reckon has now spread partly worldwide as ‘true’
doctrine.
A
doctrine that has for a few years brought much concern to
us; so we decided to seek God for the answers, as we do with
all other subjects concerning the truth of God’s word.
We were admonished as always to do as is written in II Tim.
2:15 which say “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a
workman that needed not be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.”
For the last few months this subject has been brought up
many times in our presence, by some wonderful people; some
who are contending for it, some questioning it, and others
request to know the truth of it.
Just a few days ago some one questioned us concerning the
subject.
After we talked about it for a while they asked us to write
on the subject.
This is one of the more popular doctrines being taught in
many religions of our day.
In the teaching of this doctrine they say that the Devil was
once a great Angel who led the choir in Heaven (where
God’s throne is), but that he rose up against God and
got the third of the Angels in Heaven to join him in this
rebellion.
It is also said they all were then expelled, (throne out)
of Heaven by Michael the Archangel; and the said Angel who
became the Devil, who is said to had been the great Angel
that led the choir became the Devil; and the other angels
who joined him in his rebellion against God then became his
servants.
Will this teaching hold up under the all-searching eye of
God and his infallible word?
We hope and pray that this lesson will help our readers to
examine the holy word, understand it clearly and accept the
Bibles truth.
We wish for you dear reader to bear in mind throughout this
entire lesson and always, that God’s holy word says that God
does not sleep or slumber.
Read (Psa.121: 4,) he never did and never will.
He is the Almighty: Omnipotent, (having unlimited power)
Amen.
Before going on with the lesson allow us to tell you a short
but very important story.
*A few days ago someone said to me in a questioning way;
“it’s not important if the Devil (the enemy of all human
soul) was in Heaven or not.
See, the Church where they attend teaches that the devil
was in Heaven.
Hearing a
hidden question in their speech I said, “But it does
matter.”
“But it is not essential to our Christianity.” they replied.
Being moved with compassion for that precious soul; I told
them the danger of accepting any doctrine without seeking
help from the Holy Spirit, and the word
(Bible)
in effort to know whether the doctrine they are being
taught is true or false.
You see dear one by sitting back and not seeking help from
these two ONLY reliable sources on earth, but trusting only
in what the pastor, preacher, or teacher says is like having
a friend who you trust and allergies that you cant.
Example: your friend offers you something to eat or drink;
and you never seek to know if the ingredients within the
food or drink contains any of the things in which you are
allergic to.
Often you are made to feel a little ill after eating, but
never the less you never question what you are eating from
your friend because that person is your friend.
One day you
eat and by so doing you are sick beyond recovery and could
die, but you could have avoided all this by inquiring from
your friend of the contents of the food or drink.”
False doctrine likewise comes like the poison in the food or
drink little by little, but one day your soul through
accepting it could be lost forever.
Yes, false doctrine/s may all start with the little things
you think is not essential to your Christianity; but if you
continue to accept those ‘little’ things you think are not
important to your Christianity.
One day you will find out that you have accepted too much of
those little things which you thought of as unimportant to
your Christianity; for far too long and then find that you
are lost for eternity.
Dear reader, if it were not
for the possibility of involving me in condemnation by
remaining silent; I would refrain from writing on this
subject; but since every individual is held responsible
before God for the degree of light they has received,
therefore I am duty bound to perform this cheerless task of
raising my voice against the soul-destroying false
doctrines.
“Yes, those that teaches,
or preaches false doctrine is fallen angels or workers of
darkness.
“Pro. 14: 12; 16: 25; says,
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end
thereof are the ways of death.”
Can one that fall rise
again? Oh, thank God for grace, his unmerited favor.
One may believe and teach
something false, which they were taught as a child or young
Christian; and stand in the clear before God. But if they
are shown their error, sees their error, and still hold onto
their ways of error that error then becomes a sin.
Remember, God said, “My
Spirit shall not always strive with man. (Human) Gen.
6: 3.
When a
person is truly saved they will study the word to know the
truth; and if they see that they have been in any error,
they will; from their heart say Amen to God’s word.
Again II
Timothy 2: 15 says: “Study to show thyself approved unto
God, a workman that needeth (need) not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.”
The word is not only for the leaders of the Church to study,
but it is free for all (whosoever will.)
The words in the flowering scriptures, speaks clearly to
God’s people, who finds themselves in any type of bondage in
religion - and I do believe all these words are also for all
those who truly desire to serve God.
II Cor. 6: 17; “Wherefore come out from among them, and be
ye separate,” saith the Lord, “and touch not the unclean
thing; and I will receive you.”
This unclean thing spoken of here is not meat (Good or
bad food for the physical body) but false doctrines
(Good or bad food for the soul)
The word in Rev. 3: 11; says, “Behold, I come quickly: hold
that fast which thou hath (have) that no man take thy
(your) crown.” (Victory and triumph)
Some may use Rev. 3: 11; to
say that God is telling us to stay where we are; as in where
we are worshiping or in the present condition.”
That could be so applied if we are in true worship or in
condition pleasing to God, but the only thing God really
wants us to hold on to is: full and free salvation; not
anything that keeps us in bondage.”**
By the end of our conversation the person desired to have
Bible study.
Now that’s the kind of person God can work with.
One that truly seeking God, thank God for honest hearts,
Seek to know the truth my friend for it will make you free,
see John 8: 32.
Now let us go into this lesson.
First, let us pause here and ask God to bless you as you
study this lesson.
WAS
THE DEVIL EVER IN HEAVEN?
The first record we
have of the Devil is found in Gen. 3: 1-6; which makes it
clear that the Devil was in the Garden of Eden.
Then we read in Job 1: 6, 7; that he was present when the
sons of God presented themselves before God.
Notice where Satan said he was in v7 …Then Satan answered
the Lord, and said, “From going to and fro in the
earth.”
Listed below in bold are a few scriptures that are
being used as doctrine, by those who teach that the Devil
was in Heaven (God’s abode) as part of their
doctrine; by these scriptures they try to prove the time in
which they say the Devil was thrown out of Heaven.
Isaiah 14: 12; Luke 10:
18; Revelation 12: 9; Jude 6; and Peter 2: 4.
Later in this lesson we will
study on these scriptures listed above in bold.
Please don’t stop the study of
this lesson; due to the underlined statement we will now
make, but please prove from the scriptures the proof for
your self.
We do believe that God created
the Devil. Because
scripture supports it, although not in principal from, it is
clear that the Devil was created before man.
“God created the Devil?”
you may ask.
Yes, he did. John 1: 3 says,
All things were made by him (God) and without him was
not any thing made that was made.
Isa. 45: 7 says, “I form the light, and created
darkness: I make peace and create evil: I the Lord do all
these things”
Col. 1: 16, For by him (God) all things were
created, that are in Heaven and that are in the earth,
visible and in visible, whether they be thrones or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were
created by him and for him.
These statements should give us all a good idea
that God created the Devil; for they are brought forth in
principal clear enough for any honest heart to understand;
for we all know that the Devil is the mastermind of and in
all evil; therefore God created him.
Why then did God create him? You may ask, well
that is another study of its own.
The word says in John 8: 44….”He (the Devil) was a
murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him.
Consider with me then how would God Almighty a
Holy all- mighty God sat back and let evil defiled and
destroyed Heaven his abode?
If one can believe that, what they believe is;
that the evil God made got out of hand; in other words God
could not control it.
This was the first question I asked a few years
ago when being first approached with this doctrine; and
again I ask this said question to all that believe that the
Devil was once a Holy Angel in Heaven. (God’s abode)
Go up four paragraphs and read John 8: 44 again
and note; God said, that the Devil was a murderer and a liar
from the beginning
Yes, dear reader God did not create him a pure,
Holy Angel and he decided to turn bad.
God’s Angels have not that character, they were
not created as we are (creatures of choice) in other
words they were not made having a choice to stay holy or not
to.
They are a race of spiritual beings.
They are of a nature exalted far above that of
man, although infinitely removed from that of God.
Their office is, to do God’s
service in Heaven and by his appointment succor (or help)
and defend man (human) the greatest of God’s creation
on this earth. Angels are termed “Spirits,” see Heb. 1:
14.
Note what Heb. 2: 14-16 says, “For as much then as
the children are partakers of flesh and blood,
he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that
through death he might destroy him that had the power of
death, that is, the Devil.”
Verse 15 “And delivered them who through fear of
death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Verse 16, “For verily he
(Jesus) took not on him the nature of Angels;
(Spiritual beings) but he took on him the seed of
Abraham, (Humanity)
Please contemplate these
questions one to nine.
1. if Angels could sin, have
you ever read of a plan of salvation for Angels?
2. Have you ever read where Angels will be brought
into Judgment?
3. If sin, which is a direct result of disobedience
produced by a right of choice, is not confined to immortal
spirits encased in mortal flesh; then do we still not face
the danger of sin in Heaven?
4. Was not Christ a sacrifice for mortal (Human beings)
and none other?
5.
since the Bible is silent concerning any plan of Salvation
for Angels, is it evident they cannot repent by choice; and
if this were true, how then could they have chosen to sin in
the first place?
6. If the Devil was once an Angel in Heaven, and was
thrown out because of sin; who or what was it that tempted
him to sin?
7. Where did the Devil’s tempter come from?
8. How did the Devil’s tempter get into Heaven?
9. Where is he, she or it now: and is that being still
in Heaven?
We cannot find any scripture
from the word of God that answers the above nine questions
can you?
I would like to know if any
who preach, or teach this as part of their doctrine; can
answer these direct from the word of God.
Note: the following
scriptures, which teach the exact opposite of the
possibility of sin ever being in Heaven.
Psa. 119: 89; Forever, O Lord,
thy word is settled in Heaven.
God’s word is Holy isn’t it?
Yes, for he is a Holy God. Amen.
Read Pro. 30: 5, (Pure)
Heb. 6: 5, (Good) 1 Pet. 1: 23, (Livith and
abideth forever,) Psa. 33: 4, (Right)
Heaven is a Holy place Psa.
20: 6, Holy (Means pure or free from sin).
I hope that we can agree that
God is Holy, look in Lev. 11: 44, and 1 Pet. 1: 16 Holy:
(free from sin) and that Heaven is God’s abode yes,
where his throne is. See Matt. 5: 34; 23: 22.
Heaven is a Holy place filled
with glory and with grace.
Not only is it a holy
place, it always was Holy; and it will be Holy
forever. Amen.
Now let us look into the
scriptures that were before mentioned in bold; they
are on page 4, these are preached and taught in trying to
prove that the Devil was in God’s Heaven.
First let us read Isa. 14: 12
Note: the book of Isaiah was written or took place in the
year 735 BC (Before Christ coming to this earth in the
flesh)
This alleged throwing out or
casting out of the Devil from Heaven (Where God’s throne
is) “Did it take place then?”
It could not have happened at
that time; for we all who read or rather study the Bible
well know that the Devil long before then had his works here
in this very world (Earth) in action,
Let us not just look at verse
12 of Isaiah 14; but let us read from v1 in effort to keep
this subject in context.
Now verse 1 and 2; tells us of
God’s merciful restoration of Israel (Literal Israel)
from their captivity by Babylon.
Verse 3 tells us of Israel’s
triumph in the fall of Babylon.
Verse 4 says: (a) Thou shalt
(shall) take up this proverb against the king of
Babylon, (b) and say, “How hath the oppressor ceased! The
golden city ceased!
Let’s look at the meaning of
some of the words in this verse thou (you,) and shalt
(shall) and proverb (a short popular saying,
usually of unknown and ancient origin that expresses
effectively some commonplace truth or useful thought.)
(Or in other words a way in which stories was told; usually
true stories, mostly by the people of old.)
(a) You shall use this story
in opposition, or in defense from what or whosoever the
proverb is told of.
(b) This is what you must say,
by what means have the one who placed heavy burdens upon us;
along with his golden city, been brought to an end.
In this case the proverb was
directed to the king of Babylon; and not direct to Satan
himself, although his deeds, or actions are of course the
root of his evil; by way of king Nebuchadnezzer.
Our study of Bible history
makes it clear that this king of Babylon that is being
referred to was Neb-u-chad-nezzer; who was the greatest king
who ruled the entire known world at that time. (See Dan.
4:1)
The Babylon mentioned in Isa.
14; is an ancient city that is located on the east bank of
the Euphrates River.
Its site is about 20 miles
from Baghdad.
Read all of chapter 14 of
Isaiah; note v4 to the end and you will see the proverb in
–which God gave to Isaiah, the prophet against this king
Neb-u-chad-nezzar the king of Babylon.
Verse 12, (a) how art thou
fallen from heaven, (b) O (c) Lucifer, (d) son of the
morning! (e) How art thou cut down to the ground, which did
weaken the nations?
(a) Can you explain by what
means you have been abased from your pomp and pride (b)
yell, howl, or shriek, (c) Light-barer (d) bright star (e)
Can you explain by what means you have been abased from your
exalted position; you that made the nations weak.
(Nations are people not angel,)
In this passage it is a
symbolical representation of the king of Babylon in his
splendor, and power.
Verse 13 (a) “For thou hast
said in thine (your) heart, I will ascend (Go up)
into heaven, (b) I will exalt my throne above the stars
(ministers and messengers) of God: (c) I will sit also
upon the mount of the Congregation, in the sides of the
north.
(a) You have secretly planned
that you will go up into God’s abode. (b) I will be the one
in high rank, honor, and power over the regenerated ones of
Israelites. (c) I will be in control over the assembly of
the people that live north of my empires. (Babylon)
Verse 14 (a) I will ascend
above the heights of the clouds; (b) I will be like the most
high.
(a) I will go up above those
that are in glory. (Divine glory or pleasing God,)
(b) I will be like God Almighty.)
The following verses 15 to 27
tell of the sentence God lay down on king Nebuchadnezzer.
Read carefully Isa. 14:16.
“They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and
consider thee, saying, is this MAN (not spirit) that
made the EARTH (not heaven) to tremble; that did
shake the kingdoms.” Note: God said, the kingdoms he
did not my kingdom. Amen.
Read the 4th
chapter of Daniel, and see that God kept his promise to
Nebuchadnezzer.
Turn with us to Luke 13: 31 to
32, you will see there, a similar style of speech being used
as we see here in Isa. 14:4-32.
In Luke 13: 31 to 32 Jesus was
not calling Herod a Fox. He was referring to Herod’s
cunning crafty character of ways.
Likewise in Isa. 14:12, God
was through the prophet Isaiah, not speaking concerning the
devil Beelzebub himself, but Nebucadnezzar who filled with
evil, wicked and devious ways.
Dealing a little more on
angels committing sin, Can they?
Here, I guess, some may quote
from Jude 6 and II Peter 2:4, and say that, these scriptures
are proof that Angels were cast out of Heaven because they
had sinned, by rising up against God.
But let us give these
scriptures also a close examination; let’s look in Jude 6,
let us once again not single out one verse of scripture, but
keep them in context by starting at the beginning of the
chapter.
In Jude 6 this faithful
exhortation, is from a sanctified and called brother, the
said Jude who was the writer of the book of Jude.
Verse 4 says: (a)”For there
are certain men crept in unawares, (b) before of old
ordained to this condemnation, (c) ungodly men, turning the
grace of our God into lasciviousness, (d) and denying the
only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
(a) These CERTAIN: definite
or particular, specified men who were not named, had got
into the church, (congregations) under specious
pretenses and, when in, they began to sow their bad seed.
(b) Such as were long ago.
“Proscribed” Denounce or condemn, or were put out of the
congregation. (Etc,)
A person who would through sin
and folly become the proper subject of this condemnation.
(c) Men making the grace of
God a covering for crimes “intimating” (Suggest) that man
might sin safely who believe the gospel, because in the
gospel grace abounds.
(d) This section of scripture
is self-explanatory. (Clearly spoken,)
In v5 Brother Jude reminds us
of how God took the people out of Egypt and afterward
destroyed them that did not believe or did not live right
(the wicked.)
The Angels mentioned in Jude
6, are not the celestial beings, (Those pertaining to the
spirit world or Heaven.)
But of the terrestrial beings
(An inhabitant of the earth, human being, ministers or
messengers.) see Revelation chapter 22:8-9; 19:10; also
in chapter 2: and 3: when addressing the seven churches.
(Congregations)
Jude 6, (a) and the angels
which kept not their first estate, (b) he hath reserved in
everlasting chains (c) under darkness unto the judgment of
the great day.
(a) A period or condition of
life: to attain to man’s estate.
(b) God has all fallen angels or workers of
darkness bond under the divine power of justice; bond over
to the judgment of the great day.
(c) Though they were once ministers or messengers
of light; (the true gospel) so horrible in the dark
are they that they continue to fight against God, as if
there is still some hope for them.
Now lets look into II Peter 2: 4, and again begin
at v1 to keep the scripture in context.
II Peter v1 to v10, Peter foretold (Told before
it happened) of the appearance of false teachers and of
the impiety (lack if reverence for God, or sacred things)
of their followers, and the judgment that overtook them.
Again, the angels that are mentioned in Jude 6 are
the ministers, messengers, or leaders of congregations
(churches) terrestrial angels.
Luke 10:18, in this verse we read that seventy of
Jesus disciples after returning from the gospel mission that
Jesus had sent them on; said to him with joy “Lord, even the
devils are subject unto us through they name.”
Luke 10 verse 18 Jesus answered them saying; (a)
“I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. (a) What
Jesus was saying, was; my heart and eye went along with you;
I saw the success you had and I saw how quick Satan fell
from the hearts of people under the preaching of the gospel.
Jesus was comparing Satan’s sudden fall or his
defeat by the gospel, as to that of lightening falling to
the earth.
It is clear to the honest searching heart that
Jesus was not saying that Satan feel from Heaven (Where
God’s throne is)
To those who believe that the devil was in Heaven
and that he was thrown out at this time.
Again, we must say that could not be so for he had
long tempted Adam and Even to eat the forbidden fruit and
placed murder in the heart of Cain along with countless
other devices of sin that he had long concocted in his
strategy of sin.
Now let us deal with Rev. 12: 9; again keeping
scripture in context.
Here some would tell us is where or when Satan was
cast forth from Heaven.
But note: the book of Revelation was written after
the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. (Seventy years after
Christ Jesus had gone back to Heaven.)
This is impossible; for as we all well know by now
that Satan was a jack of his trades long before 70 years
after Jesus was born.
If one takes the 9th verse of Rev. 12
as literal, then they would have to do likewise to v1.
Let’s look then in v1. (a) “And there appeared a
great wonder in heaven a woman clothed with the sun (b) and
the moon under her feet (c) and upon her head a crown of
twelve stars.
My dear friend, here Jesus is using (a) a woman as
a symbol to represent the Church of God (his Church.)
she is covered, with the imputed righteousness of the Lord
Jesus Christ. He is the Sun of righteousness. Amen.
(b) This is symbolizing, she (the Church)
having the world under here feet, or she having victory over
a worldly or sinful life.
Note: She stands upon it, but lives above it.
Amen.
(c) The doctrine of the gospel preached by the
twelve apostles, which is a crown of glory to all true
believers.
First, we see that woman clothed with the sun, how
could this be meant in a literal way?
The literal sun is the star that is the central
body of the solar system; around which the planets revolve
and from which they receive light and heat.
The sun is so hot that no man or anything made by
man can get much closer to it than it is to earth without
being consumed.
Its diameter is about 864,000 miles and it’s mass
about 330,000 times that of the earth.
It is 93 million miles from earth, and the
temperature here is; let’s round it off to say 80 degrees.
Bear in mind, that if the sun would happen to get
a few million miles closer to this earth we would be totally
consumed by its heat.
One can only imagine then what it would be like
for one to be covered or clothed by the sun.
One would be totally consumed long before reaching
it.
But most important in the explanation of this
scripture is as stated above the sun is 330,000 times bigger
than this earth.
“Therefore how could a literal woman be clothed
with the sun?”
Before going to Rev. 12: 9 Note: the moon
literally is the earth’s natural satellite, orbiting the
earth having a diameter of 2,160 miles, and is 238,857 miles
from earth.
The first part of v4 is the scripture that is
being used to assert that Satan took the third of the angels
with him when he was thrown out of heaven.
Rev. 12: 4; (a)”And his tail drew the third part
of the stars of Heaven and did cast them to the earth…”
(a) With the remaining of his power (paganism,
as prompted by heathen Rome) turned ministers and
professors of the Christian religion out of their places and
privileges and making them as weak and useless as he could.
Paganism: (those who so call worshiping God,
but not Christian worship.)
This latter (or last) part (tail)
would be many superiors, in number and outward strength to
the other; but the strength of the church lies in having the
Lord Jesus for the captain of their salvation.
Owing
that v2, 3, 5, and 6 have no bearing to this particular
lesson, we will move on to v7, 8, and 9.
Verse 7 (a) and there was war in heaven: (b)
Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the
dragon fought his angels,
(a) The war of right against wrong in the church.
(The church is the kingdom of Heaven on earth, under the
care of Heaven and in the same interest.)
(b) Christ, the great Angel of the covenant and
his faithful followers had spiritual warfare against Satan
and all his instruments.
Verse 8 (a) and prevailed not, neither was their
place found any more in Heaven.
(a) The Devil and his Angels fought against Christ
and his Church but did not win the battle.
The victory fell to Christ and his Church. Amen.
Therefore the Devil and his Angels were not only
conquered but also cast out.
Where was the Devil cast from; or out of you may
ask?
He was cast out of, or from
the strong hold he had in being able to overcome like he did
before the grace of God came in full; (God’s unmerited
favor) this grace came through the sacrifice Jesus made
for us. Amen.
The pagan idolatry, which was
worshiping of Devils, was extirpated out of the empire in
the time of Constantine.
For one to truly believe, preach or teach that
Satan was in Heaven and corrupted the third of Heaven’s
Angels is to deny and degrade Almighty God’s sovereignty.
Thank God our heavenly father and creator of the
universe, all that is free and all that will be free can
sing the triumphant song that was composed and used on this
occasion.
Rev.12: 10, 11; “And I heard a loud voice saying
in Heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength and the
kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ: for the
accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them
before God day and night.”
Verse 11 “And they overcame him by the blood of
the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they love
not their lives unto the death.” Amen.
